‘And Just Like That’ Star Reveals How She Feels About Finale

And Just Like That…” might have earned more hate from viewers than love, but series star Kristin Davis says she’s still hopeful for another chapter of the “Sex and the City” franchise.

On Sunday’s episode of her “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast, Davis confirmed she hadn’t watched the series finale of “And Just Like That…,” which aired on HBO Max in August, “because I’m in denial and I would like to remain that way.”

In a conversation with former co-star Mario Cantone, Davis also acknowledged that the episode, titled “Party of One” and set during Thanksgiving, wasn’t memorable or profound enough to serve as the series’ conclusion.

“I know what was on the page, and I know that when the girls and I got together for dinner and we were like, ‘Wait, what did we do and what did we do?’” she said. “And we couldn’t really remember, which is not a good sign.”

“This is not based on anything real,” she continued. “In my mind, we’re going to do something else. I don’t think it’ll be a whole season, but I think we will do something else.”

Davis portrayed Charlotte York-Goldenblatt on all six seasons of HBO’s “Sex and the City” and in the two feature films.

Longtime viewers reacted with excitement when it was announced that Davis would reprise her role, alongside co-stars Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, in “And Just Like That…,” which premiered in December 2021.

The revival series, however, never captured the zeitgeist like “Sex and the City,” and drew mixed to negative reviews over its three seasons. Critics and viewers alike were unimpressed by “Party of One,” particularly for its inclusion of a decidedly unglamorous plot point involving literal poop.

Even so, interest in the franchise remains strong, as evidenced by the fan reaction earlier this month when actor Chris Noth ― who played Carrie’s on-again, off-again love interest, Mr. Big ― appeared to make a shady comment about Parker on Instagram. He later clarified his remark was intended to be “sarcastic.”

As Davis pointed out, however, the rights to “Sex and the City” are currently in limbo, presumably amid Netflix’s plan to acquire Warner Bros., the parent company of HBO Max.

“No one knows who owns us right now, you know, so there’s that, that’s got to be worked out,” she said, adding: “I feel like we’ve been going for so long, you know. Why finish now?

Cantone echoed Davis’ sentiments.

“I know we’re an expensive show, but we’re worth it,” he said. “It’s beautifully shot, it’s like a movie. I mean, it’s like there’s no CGI or like that. It’s just all New York. It’s either studio sets or the beautiful locations of New York City, so that’s thrilling.”
