Robyn Reveals Why She Hated Elon Musk ‘Before It Was Cool’

While taking over Twitter and meddling in politics hasn’t made Elon Musk many new fans in recent years, singer Robyn says she was a Musk hater long before others shared the sentiment.

When the “Dancing On My Own” hitmaker was given space to rant about whatever she wanted during Wednesday’s episode of the “Las Culturistas” podcast, she took aim at the tech billionaire.

“I always hated Elon Musk. I always hated him, way before it was cool to hate him,” she said, earning nods of approval from hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.

“Because there was a time when it wasn’t cool to hate him,” Robyn continued, reminding listeners how Musk was more or less an afterthought back when his reputation leaned more towards quirky genius than scheming tycoon.

Revealing her tipping point, the “Call Your Girlfriend” singer told Yang and Rogers she became repulsed after the CEO launched a red Tesla Roadster into the stratosphere during a 2018 launch of one of his SpaceX rockets.

“As if there wasn’t enough shit floating around,” Robyn fumed, adding that she was appalled by “the fact that any commercial company can decide what to do with natural resources and also do tacky things, like sending a stupid fucking car into space.”

It was a stunt Musk, here in Washington, D.C. on November 19, 2025, did for SpaceX that really sent the singer over the edge.

Rogers agreed, telling his guest that “everything” Musk does makes his “skin crawl” these days.

Making one last point before she ended her vent, Robyn said she was particularly annoyed that the stunt was soundtracked by David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

“Just to sell cars?” she balked, saying the rocker would “turn in his grave” if he knew his music was being used that way.

While Robyn said she’s long loathed Musk, public opinion about him has shifted in her direction following his time as the face of the federal budget-slashing initiative known as the Department of Government Efficiency.

In an August 2025 Gallup poll asking Americans to assess 14 world figures, 61% of a group of 1000 adults chosen at random said they had a negative view of Musk — up 14 points since polls conducted before his stint in the White House.
