“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert took aim at his corporate bosses on Thursday night with a reminder of just how much money the company has given to President Donald Trump.
Colbert noted that nations hoping to join Trump’s “Board of Peace” for Gaza will have to pay an entry fee of $1 billion ― and that the board will have just one man in charge.
“I’ll give you a hint,” Colbert said. “He’s in the diaper.”
Trump will have the only veto on the board and serve as its chairman for life, Colbert said.
“Now, admittedly, the idea of paying a billion dollars to obey Donald Trump seems a little steep,” Colbert pointed out. “After all, CBS got to do it for just $16 million.”
That payment came when the company was attempting to complete a merger that required Federal Communications Commission approval. Around the same time, the network announced it would cancel Colbert’s show, something Trump had long demanded.
The FCC approved the merger shortly afterward.
