Wanda Sykes is the realest for going no-holds-barred during the Golden Globes. While presenting the Best Performance in a Stand-Up Comedy category, the comedian made playful digs at nominees Kevin Hart, Brett Goldstein, Kumail Nanjiani and Sarah Silverman. However, Sykes held back nothing while calling out Bill Maher, saying, “You give us so much. But, I would love a little less.”
No one got it worse than Ricky Gervais, though, who was lucky he didn’t attend the awards ceremony or he would’ve gotten an earful, too. Sykes saved her best material for Gervais — an outspoken atheist who’s been slammed for telling anti-trans jokes — telling him smugly, “I love you for not being here. … Because if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf, and you’re going to thank God and the trans community.”
Gervais ended up winning the award, and Sykes made sure to thank the very group, and religions, he’s insulted on his behalf. Now that’s what you call getting the last laugh!
